Murder 2 Music Review

As I lay my hands on the Murder 2 cd, the expectations are humungous as the soundtrack has to take forward the legacy left by its prequel whose music still lingers in our memory. So, the comparisons with the prequel are almost inevitable. The change in director is accompanied by change in music director or should I say music directors as three composers have been entrusted to do the job this time. So are they able to deliver or its a case of too many cooks spoiling the dish?
Lets analyze.

The album kick starts with the Haal-e-dil sung and composed by Harshit Saxena of Amul voice of India fame is a soft and romantic number with Bhatt stamp written all over it. The composer has tried to taken the safer route by giving a tried n tested melodious number sans any experimentation or innovativeness. Nevertheless a soothing number which may find repeat value among the patrons of such tracks.

Next track Aaa Zara composed by Sangeet Haldipur is a raunchy and sensuous number which may find some takers once the film hits the marquee. Certainly an average number which has to depend on its video to get some kick. Sunidhi chauhan tries her best to provied some impetus but is marred by the limited scope of the composition.

The third track Aye Khuda by Mithoon exudes the much required calmness and sensitivity for such kind of numbers. Singers Mithoon, Kshitij Tare and Saim have done a tremoundous job that sends the listener in a trance and forces them to be in an oblivion. A refreshing change that might invoke listner's faith back to the album.

Then comes Phir Mohabbat by Mithoon which can be unanimously termed as a best offering of the album. Both music and the lyrics are top notch and vocals by Mhd Irfan and Salim take this song to another level . This can be termed as one of Mithoon's best rendition in recent times and will bring him the much deserved respect among music pundits.

The last track by Sangeet Haldipur is your run of the mill faced paced track with no uniqueness or creativity in the music or lyrics and leaves the listner in a bad taste when album winds up.
The vocals by Sangeet Halidipur and Roshini Baptist are also nothing to rave about.

So, the soundtrack of Murder 2 is a mixed bag of some hits and misses with misses overpowering the hits. The Bhatt camp should thank Mithoon for saving the album from the clutches of mediocrity and provide some hummable tracks to provide it some solidity in terms of content.
Murder 2 hence is no match for its predecessor and may not enjoy the same shell life as part 1.
A rare disappointment from Emran Hashmi and Bhatt combo!
