Double Dhamaal Movie Review

Its raining sequels in bollywood and Double Dhamaal is the latest entrant in this ever growing list that bollywood keeps on churning out every year to cash on to the popularity of thier respective prequels.
So does Double Dhamaal  like many other sequels fails to salvage the pride of its predecessor or does it bring some respite after the dismal Bheja Fry 2? To, some extent it does manage to keep the franchise's flag waiving. It might not match Dhamaal in terms of content but has enough meat in it to keep the clock ticking and ensure healthy footfalls after ready.

The movie starts from where the prequel had ended and is basically a cat n mouse game between Kabir and the four jokers as associated in the film with each camp trying to out do the other through series of con acts. All this conman ship is done to earn easy money without any hardships. Finally which camp comes out trumps is revealed in the end and is definatley the USP of this movie.

Some of the scenes that save this from the clutches of mediocrity and can be termed as the high point in the movie are:

-The entire Satish kaushik tack is sure to leave you into splits with its witty and uncanny one-liners  specially the amalgamation of Ramayan and Mahabharat during his speech as a saint.
- The sequence where the four protagonists hide themselves in coats is bound to receive whistles among single screen patrons.
- The Scene Where the four imitate Aamir, Shatrugan Singha and Srk while inquiring about the investor from Sanjay Dutt.
- The spoofs on movies like Taare Zameen Par and Guzaarish also generate laughter.
- The scene where Kanga confesses her love for Ritesh to Sanjay Dutt.
- The golf scene between Sanjay and Arshad.
- The finale with a twist associated with it.

Apart from the aforesaid scenes, other scenes fail to provide the required laughter and lack the punch to carry this movie to an all time high. But nevertheless the above scenes more than make up for the blemishes.

Technically, the film is good with Cinematography providing it the required grandeur and ambiance.
Music by Anand Raj Anand is apt for such theme and boasts of two chartbusters in Chal Kudiye and Jalebi Bai. Choreography by Ganesh Acharya is strictly average fails to provide any impetus to the song Jalebi Bai thus forcing it to fall short in comparison to Munni Badnam and Shiela Ki Jawani. Background score is as usual loud and over the top as the script demands.Direction by Inder Kumar is adequate and up to the mark keeping the viewers's interest intact. Editing is sharp and crisp which undermines the deficiencies of the script.

Performences of the lead cast is another USP of this movie. The camaraderie between the four is thankfully preserved in the sequel as well. Ritesh Deshmukh has performed exceptionally well and this will be ranked among his best works till date. His antics of Sanjeev Kumar is sure to bring the house down and is though-rally  enjoyable.Infact if you take Ritesh out of Double Dhmaal  half the fun
vanishes. Arshad Warsi is passable in first half but shows his true colours as sardar in second half where he excels with his effortless comic timing. Aashish Chowdhary like Arshad is effective in second half where he performs the women part with utmost ease. Javed Jaffery plays foolish guy act to the hilt and emerges as a show stealer in many scenes. I wonder why a talent like him is seen so remotely?
Sanjay dutt is efficeint as kabir and holds the same importance to Dhamaal franchise as Ajay Devgan holds for Goalmal. Both Kangna  Ranaut and Millika Sherawat  perform well in whatever liitle roles they have been offered as basically Dhamaal is a male dominated franchise.Satish Kaushik is a pro at comedy and is a delight to watch after long hiatus. Zakir Hussain is wasted in a inconsequential role.

So, Double Dhamaal may not offer you the promised double dhamaal but it surely serves as the perfect stress buster for those who enjoy such piece of work that defies logic. It is definitely not for those arthouse patrons who prefer their cinema to be meaningful or a learning experience as Double Dhamaal never promised any pathbreaking cinema at the very outset and should only be viewed as source of entertainment without any prejudice or pre-concieved notions to maximize your enjoyment!
