Born With A Silver Spoon!

You  must be familiar with the phrase  “Oh He/She is born with a silver spoon” frequently associated with star sons/daughters ,more so if the star (parent)is a well known and eminent personality in tinsel town. People think that their struggle for stardom is not as rigorous as compared to a star who is self-made or sans any godfather. Does this mean that their road to fame is a bed full of roses or do they also have to prove their mettle  for a prolonged and viable Bollywood innings? Do all star sons enjoy the same status  as their coveted parents or some have to live in their parent’s shadow due to the unprecedented appreciation and fame enjoyed by them! Lets analyze the career of some popular star kids who made heads turn either due to their on own potential or just for the sake of comparison with their humungously  popular parents!

1.       Hrithik Roshan                                          

If there is one star son who can contradict the aforesaid phrase and has carved a niche for himself despite of his father’s successful stint as a director then it has to be Hrithik Roshan who has not only scaled greater heights as a actor but achieved the status of a superstar which with all due respect his father  Mr Rakesh Roshan could only dreamt off in his heydays. There was a time when there were whispers in trade that he is successful only under his father’s banner. But all these speculations were put to rest when he bounced back with Dhoom 2 and Jodhaa Akbar. The amount of hardwork and dedication he devotes towards his work is clearly palpable in each character he portrays thus making it larger than life, be it Koi mil gaya , Jodhaa Akbar or Guzaarish!

Thus Hrithik Roshan could be termed as the most successful star son to hit the silver screen in Hindi cinema’s history and can very well serve as a role model for the aspiring star sons teaching them how to bounce back from the ashes and making them realize that it is ultimately your talent that will take you places not your father’s name or reference.

2.       Uday Chopra

A man who has the two pillars of Hindi film industry Mr Yash Chopra and Aditya Chopra in his armory ,is expected to make waves without much blood n sweat right! But  contrary to popular beliefs this man has failed deliver a single solo hit to his credit and has become a source of earning for all stand in comedians who love cracking jokes on his trail with bollywood.

The debacle of Uday’s career further cements the fact that  talent has no replacement in life no matter how highly influential you are or how much backing you have got.

Verdict:- Thumbs down!

3.       Harman Baweja

Some might term it has Harman’s bad luck that Hrithik was launched before him and that dented his prospects of having a viable bollywood career due to the uncanny resemblance between the two. But this is just to console him because comparing Hrithik Roshan to Harman Baweja would not be less than a crime as the former is a powerhouse of talent while the later an average actor with good dancing skills. Harman Baweja despite being a son of a renowned director Harry Baweja has struggled to find a foothold in this unforgiving world of bollywood . He is still vying for that one film that would do wonders to him and put him on the bollywood map. We are also waiting Harman!

4.          Abhishiek Bacchan

If someone has  Mr Amitabh Bacchan the legend,as his father then you be can rest assured that the comparisons coming his way would be inevitable and he has to live under his shadow for the rest of his life! This poor soul happens to be Abhishiek Bacchan  who inspite of the talent he possesses has not achieved the the kind of success that one would associate with son of Mr Amitabh Bacchan.  Abhisheik has failed to achieve to achieve that level of adulation and appreciation  as enjoyed by his talented father. This fact can be supported by the business of his movies as three of his most successful movies i.e Dhoom 2, Bunty aur Bubbly and Guru had either Amitabh or Aishwarya to provide the impetus. Abhishiek Bacchan is a rare case of star son failing not because of lack of talent but due to the weight of expectations with which he was born and will have to bear throughout his life. Abhishiek we symphethize with you!

5.       Ranbir Kapoor

If one star son that could match the charisma possessed by Hrithik and can be touted as the next superstar is Ranbir Kapoor. Its not easy to match the versatility of his great father Mr Rishi kapoor but Ranbir has shown the glimpses of his immense talent very early in his career and is only expected to improve with experience by his side. His popularity among female viwers is the testimony of the fact that he is Rishiji’s son who too enjoyed the same adulation among females. But unlike Hrithik Roshan he is yet to be struck by a series of flops ,and therefore cant be put in Hrithik’s league as far as perseverance and mental toughness are concerned. But still a success story as far as star sons are concerned.

Thus after going through the above casestudies I can surely say that a star son may be born with a silver spoon but the length of time that spoon feeds him/her or remain intact depends solely on his own acting prowess and sometimes luck in certain cases. So after reading my analysis next time You see a new star son emerging I hope you would think  twice before saying ‘’Arrey! He is born with a silver spoon!”
